FLIPSIDE: LIL' SCRAPPY vs. OPD

What do you get when you mix a big-headed rapper and a big-headed cop with a room full of high-school girls? That’s right: damn good footage. This concert at Orlando’s Dr. Phillips High School turned into a BIG fight. Luckily, no one was seriously injured, although Lil’ Scrappy’s manager, Serious, spent the night in jail. (Remember, I’m just an objective observer, so why hate me for reporting the news? - JB)

BME/WB Recording artist Lil' Scrappy:

What were the show restrictions?
I did not curse not one time, I was bleeping out the songs. Only time I cursed is when that muthafucker put his paws on me. I am the prince. You don’t put your fuckin’ hands on me.

Okay, so tell us your side of the story.
First of all, let me tell you like this, shawty. I was out there doin’ my thing like always. I jumped off stage, the crowd got crazy, I got back on stage. Somebody snatched the mic, I didn’t even know it was a cop. I was walkin’ off, like, whatever, it’s cool, it’s over. [My manager Serious] was tellin’ [Ofc. Williams], "You can’t snatch the mic from him, you need to be doin’ something about the crowd, you ain’t doin’ shit." So the cop did Serious wrong, he just bowed him (demonstrates a punch) like that. The cop hit my manager. So my manager turned around like, "Hey, man, you can’t be doin’ shit like that, shawty, I’m a grown-ass man, I ain’t did nothin’ to you." So he bucked on Serious, and I see ‘bout, a hundred police get on stage. I’m tellin’ em, naw, it ain’t like that, chill out. I told [Ofc. Bailey], don’t put his fuckin’ hands on us. He tried to throw [my hype man] off stage, but he hung onto him, like, I ain’t goin’ nowhere. If I go, you goin’ with me. So I had [Ofc. Bailey] in front of me, and I’m thinkin’ like, if I could get away or hit him, it’d be cool.

What was going through your mind when you were pushed off the stage?
Lawsuits, nigga. Big ass lawsuit. That’s what I was thinking about. My back hurt, nigga. Ouch. Then they sprayed me. They pulled pistols out on me, in the school, and they tazered me. They put the little red things, put beams on my head and shit. And you know what I told the muthafucker? God honest truth. I said, "Dawg, what, you gonna shoot me? You can’t shoot me for talking." Then he put the gun away. That’s right, you bitch. And we can’t be like, "The white man…." Naw, it was the black muthafucker. That’s why it hurt so bad. Can’t say nothin’ about the white dude, he wasn’t here this time. It was the black muthafucker, the nigga that look just like me. Nah, he ain’t look like me, he ugly. He black, and he ugly. You need to get your shit fixed, nigga, turn your teeth into Six Flags, nigga, they could use it. Then they arrested my manager, they sprayed him for no reason. He was just tryin’ to handle business and they had a hundred police and shit. That’s why the crowd bucked on y’all. Y’all hate on any black male that walks this earth. That’s why y’all be gettin’ killed, nigga, y’all don’t understand that. Use your laws right. I know laws. I know I can laugh at you straight in your face and if you hit me, I’m suing. I’m going all the way with it. I don’t want your money. I want your badge, your house, I want your life to turn to a living hell. Y’all might play this shit in court one day, but I don’t give a damn, ‘cause this is true. This is real fuckin’ life, nigga. It’s not the fuckin’ movies, so when you put your paws on a living legend, you get sued.

Orlando police officer Richard Bailey

Officer Bailey declined to comment on the incident. The following is the arrest affidavit filed for Tommy "Serious" Phillips, Lil’ Scrappy’s manager.

The undersigned has probable cause to believe that the above named defendant, [Tommy Phillips], on the 28th day of February, 2004, at approximately 9:15 PM, did commit the above listed crimes: [two counts of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and one count of Resisting Without Violence].

While working off-duty at Dr. Phillips High School (6500 Turkey Lake Rd.), I, Ofc. Bailey, observed the Defendant Tommy Phillips IV grabbed and pushed Ofc. Kevin Williams off the stage. Ofc. Bailey and Lt. Williams ran to the stage to arrest the Defendant for Battery on a [Law Enforcement Officer].

Upon our arrival, several people were trying to restrain the defendant as we tended to Ofc. Williams. The Defendant and two juveniles began grabbing at officers trying to get to us. I grabbed one juvenile backwards and off the stage to remove him from the fight. The Defendant continued to resist and grabbed me from the side after I pushed the juvenile off the stage.

As the crowd continued to push, we went back down to the corner and I went to arrest the subject. The Defendant continued to resist and not comply with the orders that he was under arrest and to put his hands behind his back. The Defendant continued to resist until put under control and taken outside to the patrol vehicle.
