Warner/Asylum recording artist Lyfe Jennings held a private listening session for media and special invited guest on Tuesday at the Havana Club in the Buckhead division of Atlanta. Lyfe came in a little later than the scheduled time, but he did not disappoint the media or invited guest, by taking the stage and singing a few songs.
The album titled I Still Believe is supposed to be Lyfe’s last studio album. Even though this is a very solid album from a very talented artist that writes and sings from the heart about real life situations; however, the label Warner/Asylum did not treat the listening session the way that you would expect for an artist of Lyfe’s caliber. Most listening sessions caters to the media to help ensure good press and to help with sales, I personally don’t think those were the thoughts of the label. I noticed three specific things missing that are normally complimentary when it comes to a major label listening session: food, snacks and an open bar.
If this was or is Lyfe’s last album, then the label made sure that he did not get a hero’s send off. I hope that the people and fans that support good music support this album. Lyfe deserved a better send off. Just my opinion.
After covering several Drake shows and noticing his overly animated facial expressions, we decided to you insight into what’s really going on inside the head of Mr. Graham.

Jim Jones and the Dipset take their basketball very seriously and it shows when they serve an ‘L’ to DJ Clue and Team Desert Storm.

Though it appears rapper Lil Boosie may be in jail for a long time, at least his music is getting out. Currently serving 4 years for possession, and facing much more ominous murder and conspiracy charges, Boosie’s next Asylum project, appropriately entitled ”Incarcerated” is slated for a September 28th release date–if only it were that soon for Boosie. His track listing is below the cut.

For rappers not concerned with being labeled a snitch or working for the Feds, the Department of Justice might have a viable retirement option for them. Currently, the Atlanta DEA office is looking to hire 9 ebonics experts “to help monitor, translate, and transcribe the secretly recorded conversations of subjects of narcotics investigations.” In fact, the feds are having such a hard time keeping up with the current street lingo that they spend about 70 million a year on translation services alone, an amount which seems quite a bit more than what consumers spend on rap albums nowadays. Under the cut is a list of the 9 Atlanta rappers we think should be the first in line to apply.

Last night on a yacht somewhere on the waters of South Florida, DJ Khaled officially became the latest free agent to sign a lucrative contract in Miami. He is now a member of YMCM, as his meeting with Birdman appeared to go very well. Apparently, Khaled signed an artist deal that left him with what looked to be a hefty signing bonus. The president of Def Jam South was a free agent until yesterday. He later tweeted, “Happy to be part of history! One of the greatest in the game who has ever done it.”

Some people might not be familiar with Magazeen, but he’s a dancehall artist on Rick Ross’ Maybach Music imprint, which means he gets a Maybach chain and the resources to film a SpiffTV video whenever Rick Ross isn’t shooting one. But that’s only if Torch and Gunplay get to be in the videos too.
