T.I. and Tiny Arrested In L.A.

By admin • Sep 2nd, 2010 • Category: News

According to reports by TMZ, T.I. and his wife Tiny were arrested last night in Los Angeles for possession of a controlled substance. More information is below, as well as pictures in the cut. Booking documents via Radar Online are here. This doesn’t look good for the King of the South.

Law enforcement sources tell us L.A. County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over the multi-platinum selling rapper and his wife in a Maybach on Sunset Boulevard around 10:18PM. Deputies say they smelled marijuana.

When searching the vehicle cops found a controlled substance. Law enforcement sources tell us the controlled substance was not cocaine, but rather the class of controlled substance that triggered the arrest includes methamphetamines and ecstasy.

The couple just got married on July 30 in Miami, and T.I. — real name Clifford Harris Jr. — is on probation after doing seven months in prison on federal weapons charges.

Law enforcement sources say both T.I. and Tameka were booked on felony possession of a controlled substance.

Law enforcement sources say both T.I. and Tameka were booked on felony possession of a controlled substance.

They were released on $10,000 bail.

As we previously reported, T.I. was released from federal prison back in December — where he served 7 months behind bars for illegally possessing machine guns and silencers.

Law enforcement confirms … T.I. is still on probation from the gun conviction, which means last night’s arrest could qualify as a violation of his probation … and he could be sent back to prison.

Young Buck Files Bankruptcy, Plans To Sue G-Unit

By Randy Roper • Sep 1st, 2010 • Category: News

youngbuck

According to this press release sent over by Wendy Day, Young Buck is filing bankruptcy in order to get out of his contracts with G-Unit and may have plans to sue his former label. Read below:

Nashville, TN – Earlier this month it was reported that armed Federal agents raided the Nashville home of former G-Unit artist, Young Buck, to collect for a past due tax debt. In response, Buck filed for protection under the Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Laws that day (8/3), in effect, stopping the property seizure.

Under Chapter 13 laws, debtors are allowed to keep all of their possessions and then have a 5-year term to repay their creditors under a court-approved payment plan. This measure means that Buck will be able to pay the IRS debt back over time and will get all of his seized property returned to him.

Filing Chapter 13 also has the effect of negating any and all contractual obligations held by the filer, which in the case of Young Buck, includes his recording and publishing contracts with G-Unit Records, thus allowing him to shop for another deal.

Although it is rumored that Buck is readying a September release date for his third studio album, that is not the case. He is however currently under consideration at several labels.

“I was forced to file bankruptcy, not because I am broke. “ Buck advises, “But because I have to get my finances back in order and deal with the contract situations I was in. Now I have a clean slate and full control over my own life and career.”

When asked about his rumored plans to file a lawsuit against his former label, G-Unit, its CEO, 50 Cent and ex-GM and former Young Buck manager, Sha Money XL, Buck says. “Where did that rumor come from?! I have not filed suit against anyone, although, maybe that’s not a bad idea!”

Lets hope Buck gets everything cleared up and finds a new label home. His Rehab album mixtape is due out soon.

DJ Jazzy Jeff Gets Thrown Out Again

By Eric Perrin • Aug 27th, 2010 • Category: News

Just like during his old days on the “Fresh Prince” Jazz got thrown out, again. This time by management at Surrender night club in Las Vegas. Apparently, Jazzy Jeff was doing a tribute set to the late DJ AM and the club owners weren’t feeling it. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time Jazz was physically ejected from the DJ Booth.  Maybe it’s time Will Smith buy him his own club so Jeff can circumvent the institution of night club managers.

Jeezy Why U Mad?

By admin • Aug 10th, 2010 • Category: Blogs, News

middle_jeezy_01

By now, Hip Hop fans have had a chance to hear Jeezy’s “Death Before Dishonor (B.M.F.)” freestyle from his upcoming 1,000 Grams Vol. 1 mixtape, dropping Thursday with DJ Scream. The track, released last night is over Rick Ross’ “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast),” and it’s being referred to as a Rick Ross diss, due to a couple lines that maybe sneak disses aimed at Ross like, “How you blowing money fast? You don’t know the crew/Oh you part of the fam? Shit I never knew…” Well, Ross’ song is called “Blowin Money Fast” and he was never affiliated with B.M.F., although he is shouting out to the Black Mafia Family throughout the song. It might be a diss, it might not.

Ross diss or not, Rick Ross comrade and Maybach Music artist Torch took offense to Jeezy’s words and brewing beef with the Maybach boss, and took to Twitter (the first place that most rappers take their beefs nowadays) to pose the question and hashtag the topic #jeezywhyumad.

Below are a series of tweets via @TORCHCCC beginning with the tweet:

Editorial: Is T.I.’s Club Crucial Being Targeted?

By Maurice Garland • Aug 5th, 2010 • Category: News, The Rezidue by Maurice G. Garland

Last night Fox 5 reported that T.I.’s Club Crucial was facing suspension of their liquor license and a $50,000 fine for violating Chapter 10 (10-109 (a)(12) and (a)(14) to be exact) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Atlanta. The code states that the city has the power to revoke, suspend or refuse a liquor license to any business that fails to “adequately supervise and monitor the conduct of the employees, patrons and others” on the premises. In layman terms, the city is looking to suspend Crucial’s liquor license because they feel that the club has too many fights and is a violent establishment.

Club Crucial is located on the infamous Bankhead Highway (which is now named Donald Lee Hollowell), so a stigma has always been attached to this club. But anybody that’s gone there before will tell you that this is a fine establishment that just so happens to be in the middle of the ‘hood.

The City of Atlanta is citing six incidents over the last year as reason for their wanting to suspend Crucial’s license and ultimately, cripple their business. The incident reports are below… (more…)

Armed Federal Agents Raid Young Buck’s Home

By admin • Aug 3rd, 2010 • Category: News

young-buck-fitted

After years of back and forth with the IRS, agents showed up at the Nashville home of former G-Unit artist, Young Buck, seizing assets like recording equipment, jewelry, furniture, and his platinum wall plaques. The action was taken due to a $300,000 past tax bill. Although Buck’s lawyers filed in court last month to protect the rapper’s assets, the situation was apparently too far gone to save everything. Armed Federal Agents showed up to the house this morning and rang the doorbell, using a shotgun to warn the rapper against any interference with the seizure proceedings. Buck was able to keep his vehicles and his home.

After what was obviously a tense situation, Young Buck remains saddened but relatively unscathed and reflective….

In Stores Today: Pastor Troy – King Of All Kings

By Randy Roper • Aug 3rd, 2010 • Category: News

pastor-troy-koak-450x4501

Most folks that follow Southern Hip Hop already know Bun B released a new album today, but another new release getting much less attention is Pastor Troy’s King of All Kings. If I’m not mistaken, this is PT’s 21st album (and fourth this year), but don’t quote me on that. It’s not like I bought twenty-one Pastor Troy albums in my life time, I’m just passing the memo on. But if you are a Pastor Troy fan, his newest album is in stores today (if you can actually find a store that sells music), or pick it up on iTunes.

Also, Pastor Troy & DJ Scream’s recently released Crown Royal mixtape is available here.

Legislation to Reduce Crack/Powder Cocaine Sentencing Disparity Passed By Congress

By Maurice Garland • Jul 28th, 2010 • Category: News

While most of the world was buzzing about Kanye West joining Twitter yesterday, Congress passed a historic law.

Taken from Huffington Post:

Today, the House passed legislation reducing the two-decades-old sentencing disparity between crack and powder cocaine offenses. The Senate passed an identical bill in March and the legislation is now heading to President Obama, who supports the reform effort.

This is a historic day, with House Republicans and Democrats in agreement that U.S. drug laws are too harsh and must be reformed. The tide is clearly turning against the failed war on drugs.

Before the changes, a person with just five grams of crack received a mandatory sentence of five years in prison. That same person would have to possess 500 grams of powder cocaine to earn the same punishment. This discrepancy, known as the 100-to-1 ratio, was enacted in the late 1980s and was based on myths about crack cocaine being more dangerous than powder. Scientific evidence, including a major study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, has proven that crack and powder cocaine have identical physiological and psychoactive effects on the human body.

The 100-1 ratio has caused myriad problems, including perpetuating racial disparities, wasting taxpayer money, and targeting low-level offenders instead of dangerous criminals. African Americans comprise 82 percent of those convicted for federal crack cocaine offenses but only 30 percent of crack users, and 62 percent of people convicted for crack offenses were low-level sellers or lookouts.

Advocates pushed to totally eliminate the disparity but ultimately a compromise was struck between Democrats and Republicans to reduce the 100-to-1 disparity to 18-to-1. The compromise also eliminated the five year mandatory minimum sentence for simple possession of five grams of cocaine (about two sugar packets worth). The repeal of that mandatory minimum is the first repeal of a mandatory minimum drug sentence since the 1970s. Overall, the compromise bill is expected to reduce the federal prison population by thousands of offenders and save an estimated $42 million in criminal justice spending over the first five years.

I’m overjoyed that thousands of people, mostly African American, will no longer be unjustly subjected to the harsh sentencing laws enacted in the 1980s. The compromise is not perfect and more needs to be done, but this is a huge step forward in reforming our country’s overly harsh and wasteful drug laws.

Rick Ross Lands At No. 2

By Randy Roper • Jul 28th, 2010 • Category: News

rickross

According to Billboard.com, Rick Ross’ fourth album Teflon Don moved 176,000 units in its first week, settling at No. 2 on the Billboard charts, second only to Eminem’s Recovery album, which sold an additional 187,000 copies in its fifth week, bringing its US total to 1,669,600.

Yeah, Ricky Rozay fell short of his fourth No. 1 by 10,000 or so copies, but 176k isn’t bad. It’s just not f*cking with Eminem. Check the numbers below.

Khujo Goodie Released From Henry County Jail Today

“I got a tough team of attorneys, Make a judge lean like he sippin syrupy/They play dirty, he can’t touch me/Verdict beat, not guilty, search me”–Big Boi

After originally being sentenced to serve two years of a five year sentence, Willie Knighton Jr., aka Khujo Goodie, was freed today after a Henry County judge determined that one of his indictments was legally void. Big Boi and Goodie Mob members Cee-Lo and Big Gipp were all in attendance at today’s hearing, and Big Boi testified on Khujo’s behalf.

Turns out that Twitter has been the leading source of breaking news on this case, which had most Goodie Mob fans wondering what Khujo had done to provoke the long arm of the law in the first place.

In an effort to fill in the blanks, Creative Loafing called Knighton’s lawyer Daniel Kane shortly after the news hit Twitter today.

According to Kane, Knighton had been serving time in a Henry County jail (located in the southeastern suburbs of metro Atlanta) since June 9, after being convicted of three counts of felony possession of a firearm and one count of violation of the Ga. Controlled Substance Act for having marijuana in his possession — charges he’d received in 2009 and 2010.

Khujo was originally sentenced to two years because Henry County had determined that he was already a convicted felon, due to a firearms violation dating back to 1990. But today in court, Kane proved that Khujo’s previous charge was legally void.

“He had a case in 1990 when he was a teenager that was disposed of under the First Offender Act,” Kane explained. “If you enter a plea under the First Offender Act you are not formally adjudicated guilty.

“The mistake was that they thought he was a convicted felon because they thought he was convicted in 1990,” he continued. “So I went back into the archives and got the 1990 case, researched it, pulled the records and presented them to the district attorney and the judge in Henry County and said he could never be a felon in possession of a firearm — there were three counts — because he was never a convicted felon. It was a first offender case, and the court agreed.”

Of course, a two-year sentence would have put a serious dent in the reunited Goodie Mob’s plans for a new album. But the case isn’t totally behind him — a new sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 3. When asked to speculate on the final outcome, Khujo’s lawyer preferred not to comment on the ongoing case.

He did, however, comment on Khujo’s disposition after being freed today: “Well, there’s great joy, great joy and happiness. And also his friends from the music industry, they were very, very happy. Big Boi and Cee-Lo, Big Gipp, they were very happy, as well as [Khujo]’s wife, and his cousin.

In the meantime, it’s back to business for Khujo, who is featured on the hook he penned for the song “Tangerine,” (featuring T.I.), which, according to Kane, will be the next single from Big Boi’s new album Sir Lucious Leftfoot: The Return of Chico Dusty.

“It’ll be a smash; I know the song well,” said Kane, who says Khujo will be touring with Big Boi in support of the album. “It’ll get released somewhere down the road as a single after [the current single] “Shutterbugg” runs its course. So we’re looking for great success. [Khujo]’s going to go out and tour with Big.”

Khujo’s lawyer expressed equal excitement for the return of Goodie Mob.

“We’re all very happy for Khujo and we wish him tremendous success, because the Goodie Mob is reunited and they’re touring” said Kane, who, besides serving as long-time legal counsel for Khujo and other Dungeon Family members, also considers himself a fan. “We love Khujo. My son Trevor and Quinn just said, ‘Dad, do anything you can to get him out.”
