By Randy Roper • Aug 31st, 2010 • Category: Features, Interviews

big-sean-finally-famous-vol-3-big

Since it’s easier to keep up with what rappers Kat Stacks sucked off, than it is to keep track of what rappers released mixtapes, you might not have noticed, but G.O.O.D. Music’s Big Sean finally released his anticipated Finally Famous Vol. 3 mixtape today. And since Hip Hop heads and internet rap nerds have been waiting on this project for months, we figured now was as good a time as any to interview the youngest member of Kanye West’s regime.

Ozonemag.com Exclusive: Brian Pumper Disses Fat Joe, Lobbies 50 Cent For A Record Deal

By Eric Perrin • Aug 27th, 2010 • Category: Eric the Editor, Features, Interviews

pumpp

In the last month, he’s appeared on Worldstar and in Laurence Fishburn’s daughter, but aside from his porn flicks and music videos, you probably don’t know much about B. Pumper.

I know you’ve been lobbying for 50 Cent to sign you to G Unit. Say for instance he offers you a record deal under the condition that you can never appear in another porno again. Would you accept that deal?
That’s a real hard decision simply because I’m passionate about both. My cousin told me today that 50 might sign me just to clown Fat Joe, because he knows that I would smash Fat Joe’s record sales. So that would be love; anything for [50] to take me in and believe in me would be dope. But I’m hoping that if he did give me an offer and considered taking me in the camp and allowing me to work on a Pumper album through his organization I would ask him if it were possible for me to maintain both careers: porn and rap. Maybe I could even transfer my adult films production underneath his roof to where he’s getting a percentage of the revenue. Hopefully he would come to the conclusion that “the kid is passionate about porn, his raps is dope, so I’m gonna sign him to G Unit as a solo act and I’m gon’ put out Pumper albums every 18 months.” But if it really boils down to it and the money made sense to where it just wipes out the little adult video money I’m making, I would have to chose the rap. My biggest fear is niggas not taking me seriously, like the music is really, really interesting to me. I’m very passionate about it. This is not a game, I’m not some wannabe rapper, I’m not just doing it because everybody else is doing it. I really enjoy it. This is serious to me.

What do you think about the Lloyd Banks comparisons, does that bother you? (more…)

Where is Mike Jones? Paul Wall Answers

By admin • Aug 19th, 2010 • Category: Features

paul and mike

JB spoke to Paul Wall for the next issue of OZONE and in the interview Paul had some pretty interesting things to say in regards to Mike Jones’ whereabouts.

Where is Mike Jones?
I don’t know. Ever since he left Swishahouse I haven’t really kept track of him. I really didn’t know him too well before he came to Swishahouse. I’d say he dug his own grave. He lied to a lot of people, he turned his back on a lot of people, and he burned a lot of bridges. I don’t want to kick a dog while he’s down and I don’t wanna just talk shit about him, but I think a lot of people were happy when [Trae] punched him and knocked him out. But at the same time, a lot of people were mad at Trae too. It’s not like Mike Jones is the gangsta of the year, so in my opinion, you don’t really get points for beating up Mike Jones. Some people say it was a publicity stunt on Trae’s part, but I disagree with that totally because I know Trae and he doesn’t really do publicity stunts like that. If Trae feels disrespected, he’s going to address it. I think that’s what happened. If somebody disrespects you, [punching them] is not always the answer, but it’s definitely sometimes the answer. So I don’t feel like Trae was wrong in any form or fashion. Trae doesn’t do publicity stunts. But like I said, Mike Jones burned his bridge with a lot of people, so he probably had a knock out coming from somewhere at some time anyway. I’m positive of that.

Are You A G?: Tank

By Eric Perrin • Aug 13th, 2010 • Category: Are You A G?, Eric the Editor

tank
Maybe Tank deserves to be considered a G’ and not just another Nuvo nursing R&B singer. We put the
Atlantic crooner to our trademarked test to determine if he is in fact the 7th letter of the alphabet.

A. You recently re-tweeted something one of your followers wrote, which was “Tank dont look like no
R&B musician i ever seen. Dude look like he gone kill! Sheeeeyt! LOL” Is that a look you strive for? Do
you try to look like a G’?

Tank: Yeah, Yeah. I want to look at little more aggressive than the average R&B singer. I guess it is just where I come from. I have a strong athletic background—like football, basketball, and from being in the
gym. Getting physical, you know what I mean? So that type of thing that adds an element to me that
makes me way different than any other R&B singer right now. [But] I am a true R&B singer in every
sense of the word. From a musical standpoint, I love to sing to the ladies and sing about the ladies. I love
to beg, you know what I am saying. All of that is R&B and I love to do that. I just think that I add to
everything else that is R&B. I am not too far off of the beaten path but I do add some things that a lot of
people are not doing.

Tank almost earned himself a point for this response, until he admitted his affinity for begging. Never a
G’ move.

Issue #84 – Patiently Waiting: Kendrick Lamar

By Randy Roper • Jun 23rd, 2010 • Category: Issue #84, Patiently Waiting

Issue84-74

Unlike most of his peers, Kendrick Lamar did not succumb to the gang bangin’ and violence that has plagued his community for generations. When asked how he managed to stay clear of the crime in Compton, California, the 22-year-old up-and-coming MC’s answer was simple: his father. “Out of all my peers, the thing that separated me from them, is that they don’t have no fathers,” he begins. “I had a father, and that’s why I stayed on the right road. And that’s the reason behind the gangs that’s out here. Cause a lot of cats out here have broken homes.”

His pop’s guidance was enough to steer Kendrick away from the streets. And at age 13, instead of Bloods and Crips, rappers and emcees were his heroes. Enticed by artists like Tupac and DMX, a young Kendrick started to pen his own rhymes. “I remember looking in the mirror and saying, ‘I wanna rap just like Tupac,’” he recalls, of his childhood icon. “I liked ‘Pac when I was coming up. ‘Pac passed and after that I can remember it being kinda commercial, but when DMX dropped I was like… a nigga got inspired.”

Issue #84 – Patiently Waiting: Cyhi da Prince

By Maurice Garland • Jun 23rd, 2010 • Category: Issue #84, Patiently Waiting

Issue84-34

Ask a rapper when he was introduced to rap, and he’s probably going to say since he was born or when he was little. But that’s not the case with Konvict/Def Jam recording artist Cy Hi Da Prynce.

“I didn’t grow up on rap,” he admits. “I was so bad as a little boy, so my mom would only let my hear gospel music. I only got into rap because I ran out of things to do after playing football, running track and singing in the school chorus.”

Issue #84 – Patiently Waiting: Bone

By Ms Rivercity • Jun 23rd, 2010 • Category: Issue #84, Patiently Waiting

Issue84-32

In the rural city of Atlanta, Texas – population 5,475 – the chances of becoming a Hip Hop chart topper are slim, but the odds didn’t deter Bone, who’s record “Homegurl” landed him a deal with Def Jam last year. A small-town kid with big dreams, Bone was chasing a rap career before he was even old enough to hit the stage.
