It’s official! There’s a new King of the South, and he’s ready to hold this rap game hostage! Act like you know, because T.I. is Serious!
Sweat, dro, and bubbly (preferably Moet) clouded the air as T.I. hit the stage for what proved to be the hottest performance of the Super Summer Fiesta at Tabu. In an authentic T-Mac jersey, minus all the bling-bling, T.I. brought it back to the streets and gave a show few will forget. OZONE recently caught up with the 21-year old Bankhead, GA native as he discussed his music and plans for the future.
What should people expect to hear on your album?
Nothing but the streets. That’s where I’m from so that’s what my music is going to reflect.
What is the concept behind the blazin’ track, "Dope Boyz?"
Once again, the street life. That’s the influence on all my songs. Life has taught me so much, I know there are people going through the same grind, so I want to show some love.
How can you claim to be the King of the South?
Because I know what I speak of. I’m not rapping about anything I haven’t seen or done. My life experiences in the South have given me an opportunity to speak to others.
Who are three artists you’d like to work with?
Jigga, Eminem, and Outkast.
You have a hot track on the album called "Meet Me At the Hotel," which features Too Short. Can you explain what this song is about?
This song describes a woman, a hoe, and a bitch. The way I see it, a "woman" carries herself well and gets respect. A "hoe," better yet a stand-up hoe, is a hustler who goes after what she wants. The bitch snaps if you don’t respect her.
In a lot of your songs you refer to "pimpin’." What are you pimpin’?
I’m a P-I-M-P. I pimp life’s benefits, and I have woman who do things for me.
Oh yeah? What are these women doing for you?
My dry cleaning.
What projects are you working on now?
I have my own record label called P$C Records. Myself and Grand Hustle Inc., a clique of old friends, have a CD out called "Trap Muzik." I produced a track on the album called "Grand Royal." It’s hot! Album sales are doing well so watch out for it.
With a successful debut album and a proven fan base, you still don’t get the respect you deserve. Why not?
I don’t know. That makes me work harder. I would rather work for my success than have it handed to me. If it is given to you it can be taken away. I can’t help what people listen to, but hopefully I can influence the game.
Is there anything else you want to say?
Thank you for all the support, I appreciate it. I speak the truth and I’m happy people are beginning to realize it. One more thing - why do they stop serving alcohol at two?
Welcome to Orlando!
