Kanye West Steals Tum Tum’s Haircut

Washington, D.C.–Popular rapper Kanye West, producer of hit song “Swagga Like Us” recognized for both his musical talents and fashion sense was spotted committing a blatant swagger jack during his performance at the Inaugural Youth Ball for President Barack Obama. Obviously deserting his usual choice of carving designs in his hair for special events, West instead opted to rock a hairstyle affectionately known as the “Tum Tum.” Named after the Dallas, TX rapper who unpopularized the hairstyle in his 2006 video “Caprice Musik” the hairstyle is also known as the “Black Mullet.” To date, no other human being with two good eyes and common sense has been seen sporting the ill-advised haircut. Our sources have reported that Kanye decided to steal the hairstyle both out of sheer boredom and for knowing that he has an influence powerful enough to make other imbeciles copycat his style no matter how questionable it may be. Tum Tum was unavailable for comment about the swagger jack, but we have received word from a spokesperson that legal action may be considered if West does not donate at least 3 beats to Tum Tum for his next album.

The Shag, Tum Tum, etc isn’t new. It’s a 80’s look. Everything Kanye has been doing lately has been 80’s inspired….the way he dresses, the sound of the music he’s been putting out and now the hairstyle.

The haircut is very old. And it did originate in the South back in the late 80’s/early 90’s. I don’t know about Memphis or Tum Tum. But dudes out of Bessemer, Alabama were the first dudes I seen rock this haircut. They called it the “bessemer cut”.

After the curl cats rocked the low afro. Business style. Then came low cuts with waves. The shag married the two. The effect was the naturally curly fro in the back with a clean tape that faded into waves on the top and sides.
