(Photos + Blog) Travis Porter, Waka Flocka, DJ Teknikz Mixtape Release Party

Last night at Club Sub Zero was “all the way turnt up” for Travvy & Waka’s mixtape release party for Streets R Us. Promoted by Team Millionaires (who never throw a bad party), with music by DJ Incredible & DJ Pretty Boy Tank as emcee, damn near the whole city tried to cram into that undersized venue. The crowd exploded when Waka performed “Oh Let’s Do It” and got even stupider when Travis Porter hit the stage with “Turnt Up.” New songs from TP that caught people’s attention were “Bananas” (they actually threw out bananas #probablynotsmart), “Hell You Talmbout,” “Go Shorty Go,” “Get Naked,” and pretty much everything else they performed.

roccett

Roccett shares a couple joints off his upcoming street album with DJ Drama, The Free Agent. Sounding dope, but…the “Afternoon Delight” sample intro on “My Real N*ggaz” is um…confusing to say the least.

Juvenile on the Speed of Hip Hop

Juvenile speaks on why he prefers uptempo rap. He also says he thinks the “Atlanta sound” slowed rap down. Not sure what he means by that one. Screw was known more in Texas and Louisiana than it ever was in Atlanta. If anything, the most of the music coming from Atlanta was the love child of Miami Bass and Memphis Crunk. Maybe he mean the snap-n-trap era music? *steps away from soapbox to let Juve speak*

B.G. Arrested on Gun Charge

untitled

Dorsey, who raps under the moniker B.G., or Baby Gangsta, Tuesday night following a traffic stop in which officers recovered three guns, two of which were reported stolen, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Dorsey, 29, was booked with illegal carrying of weapons. He appeared in magistrate court Thursday morning, but the status of his incarceration, such as bond information, was not listed Thursday night in electronic court records maintained by the Criminal Sheriff’s Office.

Police said Dorsey was arrested along with the two others in the vehicle, Demounde Pollard, 17, and Jerod Fedison, 28.

Officers from the NOPD’s 7th District halted the late-model Chevrolet Tahoe after watching it commit a traffic violation, police said. They seized the three weapons, along with loaded magazines and two extended magazine clips, according to a police news release.

Fedison and Dorsey were each booked with illegal carrying of a firearm, according to court records. Pollard was booked on multiple drug charges — including possession of hydrocodone, oxycodone and alprazolam — and two counts of illegal possession of stolen firearms, and a count of illegal carrying of a weapon.

Dorsey, who hails from Uptown, is a solo artist and a member of the Hot Boys ensemble, which boasts such big names as Li’l Wayne, Juvenile and Young Turk. He signed with Cash Money Records at the age of 13.

A former drug dealer who admitted to dabbling in heroin, he released an album several years ago with the Chopper City Boyz that debuted at No. 20 on a Billboard Chart. He also became chief executive officer of Chopper City Records, a Metairie-based label.

A spokeswoman for the label declined to comment on his arrest Thursday.

Dorsey has been arrested several times this year. He was arrested in New Orleans in June and booked into jail on drug charges. He is scheduled to appear in court next week on that case. He was also briefly held in jail this summer on an outstanding warrant from Texas, court records show, without indicating the nature of that case. The case was dropped a month later.

He was also arrested in March on drug charges in Jefferson Parish, according to court records. Prosecutors dismissed the case in August.

Wayne is “goin’ in,” now B.G. Are there going to be any Hot Boys left for this supposed reunion?

Slick Pulla Eyes Freedom, New Music

slickpulla

Incarcerated rapper Slick Pulla will be released from prison to a halfway house at the beginning of next year.

The rapper, who has been locked up since early 2007 on a probation violation, is part of Young Jeezy’s USDA (United Streets Dope Boyz Of America), which will drop a new album in early 2010.

“All this situation did was set me up to really get focused and come back to really give the people what they need,” Slick Pulla said last week during a conference call organized by RapStarPromo.com. “I need to be out there giving the streets what they need, good yams, instead of being in here. So it’s going to be a lovely situation. A minor set back for a major come back.”

USDA’s latest single “Bag Music” hit the Internet earlier this week, giving fans a glimpse of the upcoming project, which is a follow up to their 2007 album Cold Summer.

“This album is not about just laying down another compilation of different lyrical creativity, but more about letting the streets know that USDA is still united strong and fierce in that same branded Corporate Thuggin Way,” Young Jeezy said in a press release about the new USDA album.

In addition to Slick Young Jeezy, group members JW, Boo Rossini, Blood Raw and 211 make appearances on the untitled album.

Although he has been incarcerated for over two years, Slick Pulla said his USDA group members have been keeping him involved in their projects and playing new music for him, as he awaits his return to the rap game.

“You can be dumb and make the same mistakes or you can take the situation and make your mind stronger,” Slick Pulla said. “Cats in here are more focused on what they wanna do. When you’re on the streets you got so much going on, but in here you can focus on what you wanna do. Cat’s just wanna get down and execute.”

In early 2010, Slick Pulla will be released to a halfway house. If all goes well, he could be home as early as Summer of 2010.

“Once you get to the halfway house, you can work,” Slick Pulla said. “I am trying to get it to where I can go to the studio to work. And if I do good there, I get that weekend pass and then I’ll be able to work.”

Plies Pays “Plenty Money” To Underaged Fan to Leave His Show

While performing some of his raunchy music at FAMU’s homecoming concert, Plies spots an underaged girl in the crowd, apologizes to her and then pays her to leave. (1:45 mark)

As for the of-age females who stayed, he immediately beckoned some “Becky” from them.
